Tonight, at Peakes Quay on the Charlottetown Waterfront, there's a giant concert in aid of the Southern U.S. Fishery. It's part of the PEI Shellfish Festival, and proceeds are going to lend a hand to people who saw their livelihood devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Some estimates say it will take five years or more for the commercial fishery to recover in Mississippi and Louisiana, and as bad as things get in our own Atlantic Canadian fishing industry, the folks here are pitching in at a time when our neighbours need a hand.
I'll be co-hosting the event with the legendary Eric MacEwen, introducing some amazing performers in the giant tent on the waterfront. Among them: the incredible Stephanie Cadman - a blazing fiddler who knocks audiences on their asses every time she plays; Big Tilda, doing some terrific rock/dance music; the Lazy Jacks, who serve up some great Island and Acadian traditional music; and a host of others - including a few jaw-dropping surprise guests.
There will be lots of yummy shellfish - oysters, mussels, lobster, crab ... and there will be a guest chef from Louisiana to give everybody a taste of Cajun cuisine.
It's all happening in the enormous beer tent for the Shellfish Festival - starts at 6 and goes till 10 ... if you're on the Island, be sure to take it in. If not, wish us luck!
Luck!
(Wish I *could* be there!)

You have a shellfish festival?
Did you say "crab"?
Did you say "Cajun cuisine"?
Will there be crawdaddies?
*drools uncontrollably*
As pitiful as this comment is, it would be even more so had I not just gorged on crab and eel at lunch. Best of luck tonight, and please tell us all about the doin's and the special guests when all is said and done.
